Frequently Asked
Questions
To qualify as a free-range egg farm, it is necessary for the hens to enjoy significant and consistent access to an outdoor area throughout the daytime. This access is typically arranged by farmers who open the doors to the sheds, known as “pop holes,” each morning and securely close them in the late afternoon once the hens have returned indoors.
Cage-free and barn-laid eggs refer to the same concept. In this farming system, hens reside exclusively within an indoor barn environment, with the distinction that they are not kept in cages. Unlike free-range hens, cage-free hens do not have the option to access the outdoors.
